Addis Ababa, July 30,2017- Ethiopian Sport Journalists Association (ESJA) in collaboration with Sofi Malt successfully held an experience sharing session on ‘Reporting International Athletics Event’.
A day long training was held at the Intercontinental Addis Hotel in Addis Ababa, ESJA organized the event one week prior to the commencement of the 16th edition of the IAAF World Athletics Championship which is due in London. The training is believed to enhance the quality of reporting.
More than 70 sport journalists took part in the training as ESJA President Mr. Yonas Teshome stressed in his opening speech that the event would help to improve Athletics reporting in the local media. Sofi Malt’s brand manager Ms. Rahwa Gebremeskel on her part told the conclave Sofi Malt is delighted to partner with ESJA as it is part of its corporate social responsibility. Ms. Rahwa further affirmed the commitment of Sofi Malt to continue to work with the association.
The guest of honor EAF president Haile Gebreselassie on his keynote speech stated his admiration and the importance that the media holds. Haile noted that “Without a media the athletes and the sport would not be on top.” Haile has also answered some subsequent questions from the participants of the event.
ESJA EXCo member Fiker Yilekal has managed to present his findings on why the local media is poor in quality of Athletics reporting. Fiker’s findings were followed by an insightful and a profound discussion among participants to tackle the problem. Haileegziabher Adhanom and Abdu Mohammed, who both happened to participate in an international events in Doha and Nairobi, have also shared their experience.
Upon the closing stages of Yesterday’s event ESJA have launched its maiden official website, ESJA.org, which is designed by Pana Promotion.
